Paradigm FastVel is an automatic residual moveout application designed to flatten time or depth domain common midpoint or common reflection point gathers using second or fourth order normal moveout corrections. It operates automatically on a very dense vertical and lateral grid of prestack seismic data and outputs flattened gathers as well as an updated velocity field. The FastVel method is based on AVO criteria as described by Swan (2001), with modifications and enhancements to support application to a broad range of data and field conditions.
FastVel uses automatic procedures to generate residual moveout or velocity volumes. You can also create updated RMS and interval velocities, moveout corrected gathers, residual Eta sections, or Eta volumes. These output velocities can be used in other Paradigm applications like GeoDepth® (Velocity Model Building) or Probe™ (Model-based AVO Analysis) to support seismic imaging, seismic characterization or pore pressure prediction projects.
The recommended FastVel workflow begins with an interactive utility that enables you to select parameters and view the results of the procedure on selected gathers. This customization and QC step is recommended for selecting optimal parameters. Once parameters are selected, you can run a batch process to obtain detailed, high resolution residual velocity information as well as flattened gathers. This batch process can be performed using a multi-CPU machine (currently limited to shared memory systems or nodes).
