Paradigm GOCAD® Advanced Structural Analysis (Kine3D®)

Developed with Institut Français du Pétrole, Advanced Structural Analysis (Kine3D-1*) has been designed to help in the construction of 3D models in complex areas where 3D data is scarce.

Kine3D-1 integrates surface data that are often missing in the 3D geomodeling software: cross sections, geological maps, structural maps, Digital Elevation Models, and any geological surface data such as dip and azimuth.

Digital or old analogue format data can be loaded in Kine3D-1. You can resize images and properly locate them in the 3D environment. Easily integrate and georeference cross-sections or maps from former 2D studies into the geo-modeling environment. Dip values characterizing faults and horizons and measured on field are integrated and used to constrain the construction of the surfaces.

Kine3D-1 users can switch easily between 2D and 3D representations of the model. Based on geological knowledge and hypotheses on the deformation model, special tools enable the construction of missing geological parts (i.e., construction of isopach and anisopach in 2D and 3D). All geological contexts - compressive, extensive, gravity gliding, pre-syn, and post-tectonic sedimentation - will be specially treated. Reverse flanks of compressive structures are possible.

Kine3D-1 offers QC tools for interpretation coherency, which are based on restoration process. Quality control of horizons length helps insure coherency of shortening or extension of a cross-section. Deformation, thickness variation, fault geometry, fault activity, and horizon-fault contact may highlight numerous inconsistencies in the 3D model geometry and may then be corrected.

Advanced Structural Analysis (Kine3D-1) facilities include:

  • Integrate surface data such as Digital Elevation Model, geological maps, dip and azimuth values, and existing 2D cross-sections
  • Georeference cross-sections or maps
  • Isopach or anisopach layer construction
  • Fault geometry and activity analysis
  • Deformation analysis
  • Thickness variation analysis
  • Schmidt and Wullf diagram
