The Drilling Planner Suite is designed for planning and editing stand-alone wells, drilling platforms, and sidetrack wells. It is composed of two modules: The Basic Well Planning module and the Extended Well Planning module. Both are integrated with the modules in the Earth Decision Suite. Users can quickly define a drilling template with default parameters that can change to define the drilling targets and then plan wells, platforms, and sidetracks. The Extended Module expands the basic functionality to include sidetrack planning, path uncertainty, collision risk analysis, editable path and location, and improved control of well trajectory planning. Enhanced reach analysis and cost models can be created quickly and easily.
Drilling Planner has been designed with an easy-to-use workflow that leads both the novice and the super user through a series of design steps that include:
- Gathering existing data and defining the engineering criteria
- Identifying target spots to be reached during drilling
- Planning individual wells and drilling platforms to reach the targets
- Calculating path uncertainty and collision risk analysis
- Performing cost evaluations
- Modifying targets, paths, and locations, as necessary, to minimize costs that occur when refining plans
