Paradigm GOCAD® Velocity Modeling

Paradigm GOCAD Velocity Modeling and Time to Depth Conversion modules is available as an add-on to the GOCAD Base Module. This module helps the user build time or depth velocity models and use these velocity models to transfer from time to depth or depth to time of any horizon, seismic volumes, fault and 3D stratigraphic grid. Seismic and well velocity or any velocity information can be loaded easily and then used as input data to the modeling process. The Velocity Modeling Module flexibility caters to most standard velocity modeling workflow.

  • For example, velocity volumes can be constructed by first interpolating a “stacking/imaging” velocity functions across the whole volume and then using co-kriging to interpolate checkshot velocity available at the well location everywhere in the volume using the background “stacking/imaging” velocity information as trend information.
  • Another example is the creation of a velocity volume from horizon based velocity, interpolating for example v0 at the top of a layer from velocity picks, interpolating v1 at the base of the layer from velocity picks and then using a velocity function inside the layer depending on v0 and v1.

The Paradigm GOCAD Base Module provides many unique salt surfaces modeling capabilities as well as a comprehensive Structural Modeling Workflow to modeled faulted layers. Once for example a salt surface is built, the velocity volume can be easily decomposed between an “inside” and “outside” salt region. Inside these regions different arithmetic manipulations of the velocity can be performed, such as assigning a constant velocity inside the salt and a sediment velocity gradient outside the salt to create the velocity volume.

The Paradigm GOCAD Velocity Modeling and Time to Depth Conversion module provide important tools to calibrate and correct seismic derived velocity volumes to the well markers.
