General Information
1. What is Paradigm™ Vanguard™ and who is it for?
Paradigm Vanguard is a comprehensive platform for integrating seismic, well and geological data, to produce a spatial description of reservoir properties (impedances, porosities, saturations, lithology etc.). Vanguard is a multi-disciplinary reservoir characterization tool. It integrates seismic data, well log data and geologic data to produce a spatial description of reservoir properties.
Unlike other commercial solutions that attempt to bring a diverse portfolio of seismic reservoir characterization solutions to a broad E&P community, the Vanguard system enables this functionality in one system with common data models and a unified and modern interface. The integration operations and transformation functions are equally accessible to reservoir characterization specialists, pore pressure prediction professionals, geophysicists, and seismic interpreters. The embedded analysis tools (seismic attribute and math calculators, lithologic crossplotting, well log window) save users days or even weeks in performing essential but often difficult or tedious data integration or transformation tasks. Specially designed fit-for-purpose product configurations are also available for the seismic interpreter, geophysicist, and reservoir characterization specialists engaged in seismic reservoir characterization projects.
2. What are the technologies which are included in Vanguard?
Vanguard seismic reservoir characterization tools include acoustic, elastic, and simultaneous pre-stack inversion solutions; Lamda, Mu, Rho (LMR) extraction and analysis; neural network prediction of well log curves; geostatistics; interactive multi-well, multi-attribute seismic to well log calibration (wavelet extraction, time-to depth); seismic attribute generation and extraction; cross equalization; advanced well log data management (based on Paradigm Geolog®); special supporting analysis tools (e.g. lithologic crossplotting, horizon and volume math operations, rock physics).
3. What is Institute Francais de Petrole (IFP), inversion?
Vanguard provides a unique pre-stack simultaneous global inversion which is a result of the collaboration with IFP, following years of research that were supported by the major oil companies.
4. How do Vanguard users benefit from the integration the into Paradigm environment?
Seismic reservoir characterization workflows need to draw on diverse input data types and value-added functionality, which is not always available in the system. Paradigm common data model and infrastructure (Paradigm Epos™) allows seismic reservoir characterization projects to be easily enhanced with direct links to Paradigm industry-leading solutions in petrophysics (Paradigm Geolog); seismic facies classification (Paradigm Stratimagic®); stratigraphic model building (Paradigm SKUA®) and volume interpretation (Paradigm VoxelGeo®, Paradigm Reservoir Navigator). Data from third-party data stores is also easily incorporated into Vanguard projects through the Paradigm proprietary, Epos™ infrastructure.

Installation/Upgrade
5. Do I need to run Epos 4.0 to install Vanguard?
Yes, the Vanguard makes use of the data repositories and infrastructure new to Epos 4.0.
6. How can I export and import data between Vanguard and other Paradigm applications, and third-party applications?
Probe reads and writes data directly from the Epos database. The options for data import/export are as follows:
a) ASCII/SEGY Import/Export using flexible interactive tools to interrogate files and QC the data
b) ULA Import/Export using Paradigm client/server technology to connect directly to OW/GF databases for interpretation/seismic/well data access
c) OpenSpirit connections for flexible access (new in Epos 4.0)

Licensing
7. Does Vangaurd have a dependency on other Paradigm products or can it be run stand-alone?
Probe is a stand-alone product and does not have any dependencies.
8. Will I require a new license file for Vanguard for Rock & Fluid Canvas™ | Epos 4.0?
Rock & Fluid Canvas 2007 Epos 3.0 customers with licenses of Vanguard will not require new licenses when they upgrade to Rock & Fluid Canvas 2009 | Epos 4.0.

Training and Support
9. Is training available for Vanguard?
Yes, visit www.pdgm.com/training for a full listing of available classes by location. Also, customers using any of the Rock & Fluid Canvas 2009 | Epos 4.0 products are strongly recommended to enroll in the Epos 4.0 System and Data Management course.
10. Where are Paradigm Training Centers located?
Paradigm offers public at our training centers in the following locations:
Americas - Houston, TX, USA; Calgary, Canada; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Caracas, Venezuela
Europe/CIS - Woking, England; Aberdeen, Scotland; Pau, France; Moscow, Russia
Middle East/North Africa/India - Lagos, Nigeria; Mumbai, India; Dubai, UAE
Asia Pacific - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Perth, Australia
China - Beijing, China
11. Can I schedule a private Vanguard training class just for users in my company?
Yes, Paradigm can teach our Probe class to your users on a private basis at a Paradigm Training Center or at your facility.
12. Can private classes be taught using my dataset?
Yes, but in order to avoid customization charges, we recommended that we deliver a private class using our dataset. After the training class is completed, our trainer can spend an extra day working with users on their datasets. We have found this to be the most cost effective way of transferring knowledge with specific datasets.
