AspenTech Subsurface Science & Engineering (SSE) is a pioneer and industry leader in the technologies that allow operators to assemble terabytes of seismic and non-seismic geophysical data, well information, geological information and production history, to interpret, analyze, forecast and perform risk analysis.

AspenTech SSE brings new technologies to market that can be applied to existing or new surveys for improved consistency and resolution. Our Reverse Time Migration (RTM) and anisotropic tomography provide much higher-quality images compared to previous results. Similarly, in petrophysics, new tools such as water saturation analysis and image log analysis bring additional information to the geologist or reservoir engineer.

In conventional and unconventional reservoirs, all information must be combined in a coherent understanding of the subsurface.  The SSE multi-vintage, multi-survey interpretation system provides tools for structural and stratigraphic interpretation (channel or turbidite systems, carbonated platform interpretaion), which enforce structural consistency through our structural framework builder. Automated seismic facies technologies rapidly map the geological character of the reservoir over wide areas and unravels stratigraphic and depositional plays. Fault seal analysis tools help analyze fault plays, and multi-Z interpretation and modeling help construct the best salt bodies for pre- or post-salt plays.

The SSE quantitative interpretation system (pre- and post-stack) integrates logs and seismic, including well tie synthetics, inversion volumes, geostatistical property volumes and AVO/AVA attributes.

To better understand the petroleum system, our basin reconstruction software validates interpretation and creates 4D geological models and basin modeling grids to deliver to basin modeling software. 

Seismic structural and stratigraphic information, log information and geologist information (conceptual models) are all integrated into the reservoir modelPressure transient testing analysis also adds information to overall understanding of the reservoir.  Our holistic approach to uncertainty enables interpreters to capture petrophysical, structural, facies, reservoir properties and flow uncertainties. As a result, asset managers will have a full understanding of the total uncertainty to evaluate different development plans.

Finally, our well planning and drilling solutions provide the tools required to properly plan wells or side tracks and develop a casing and tubing program - even in high-pressure, high-temperature settings.

The scalable infrastructure and agile distributed databases of Epos™ offer the flexibility and rich features needed to manage today’s projects, where huge amounts of data may be stored in different repositories. The data include large amounts of 2D seismic profiles, 3D surveys, geological cross-sections, reservoir models and many thousands of wells, all of which are available to multi-disciplinary asset teams. In order to sustain work through changes in team location, ownership or transformation in the organization, asset teams must be able to back up a whole project, with the option to store or restore the data for use in any project or business unit.
