Velocity models play a crucial role in the early phase of E&P workflows for imaging the ground and/or positioning the major structural events in the depth domain. They are at the foundation of all subsequent models predicting hydrocarbon in place and their evolution through production. Consequentially, velocity models are held to high quality standards that geoscientists typically struggle to attain in practice.
The benefit of realistic geologically-constrained velocity models has long been recognized by the industry, but it often lacked tools to create models that were sophisticated enough. Using advanced implicit geomodeling software like SKUA-GOCAD, we are able to bridge this gap to create robust Velocity Models, leading to improved results in all processes they drive.

Jeremy Rihet is a Senior Geomodeler at Emerson E&P Software. He has more than 8 years of experience as a Geomodeler, and through his career developed varied expertises in Geostatistics, structural modeling, fracture modeling, velocity modeling, and scripting within the SKUA-GOCAD application. After starting with Emerson/Paradigm as support for Saudi Aramco, Jeremy has worked as a consultant with many oil and gas companies in the Middle East and in Asia-Pacific.
